Just in case you were wondering...

My name is Melanie Bell and I have been teaching for seven years. All seven years of my teaching experience have been at Piedmont Middle School. I feel so blessed to be a part of such a great school family and I am excited to see what this school year has to offer! I graduated from Ohio University in 2006 with a degree in Middle School education and I am certified to teach science and language arts. I am originally from Cleveland, Ohio, so yes I am a fan of the Browns, Indians, the Cavs, and most importantly the Ohio State Buckeyes! I met Mr. Bell in college and we have been married for three years and we have a beautiful silver Labrador retriever named Lily. Mr. Bell and I are going to have a new addition to the family this year! We are having a baby girl on Christmas day which we are thrilled about!

I am a strong believer in making science fun and relevant and am excited for this school year to begin. Although I will be gone for part of the school year, I am looking forward to getting to know the students and making the 2012-2013 year the best! I am also the head coach of the Science Olympiad program and am very proud of all of our success. We have worked so hard, and our efforts have paid off being able to go to the National competition two years in a row. We are hoping for another productive season!

Lastly, I have a strong passion for children and couldn't imagine my life any differently. I believe middle school children are unique and at such a special age where you can really connect with them, though that might propose a challenge sometimes, I wouldn't want to teach any other age. I am going back to school and getting my master's degree in School Counseling at Gardner-Webb University in hopes to learn more about this age group and how I can better utilize my skills with these children.

Thank you for being a part of this learning process and I look forward to working with you and your child this year!
